Treatment as Prevention

Treatment as Prevention

Combination prevention and Treatment as Prevention (TasP) represent innovative and comprehensive approaches in the field of public health, particularly in the context of preventing and managing the transmission of infectious diseases, notably HIV/AIDS. Combination prevention involves the simultaneous implementation of multiple strategies to address various facets of disease transmission, encompassing behavioral, biomedical, and structural interventions.

This multifaceted approach recognizes the complexity of factors influencing disease spread, aiming to create a synergistic effect that maximizes the impact on prevention efforts. On the other hand, Treatment as Prevention focuses on the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) to not only treat individuals infected with HIV but also to reduce the risk of onward transmission.

By effectively suppressing viral replication in the bloodstream, TasP not only benefits the health of the individual but also plays a crucial role in preventing the further spread of the virus within the population.

The combination of these two strategies reinforces the global effort to curb the spread of infectious diseases, illustrating a paradigm shift from singular interventions to a more holistic and integrated approach that addresses the multifaceted nature of disease transmission.

Through the implementation of combination prevention and Treatment as Prevention, public health initiatives strive to create a comprehensive and sustainable impact, ultimately contributing to the reduction and control of infectious diseases on a broader scale.

AIDS Solidarity Movement (or the Movement), is a Non-Governmental and Non for Profit Organization registered in the Republic of Cyprus. It was established in 1989 and since then it provides services, support and advocacy, related to HIV/AIDS issues.
